Welcome to Fred
Hello and welcome to Fred! Yes, a cat! This little darling isn’t even 1 year old and has already had his first major orthopeadic surgery! In fact, he has had 2!
Poor Fred saw the vet, and they discovered he had luxating patella in both knees. This means his knee cpas were dislocating. This is very sad and can affect power and mobility. There are many downsides to this disease, but in a cat, that really can affect how agile they are and their ability to flee from danger.
One knee was worse than the other, and this is quite normal, so surgery was done quickly in the first knee. He then came for physio. It’s not the easiest to treat cats, and young made it an added challenge. But as a team with mum, we worked a plan that worked for him. He was a delight too. He really melted my heart.
Sadly, as time passed, others became evident that the knee cap was still unstable, and we were not able to get it to stabilise with exercise. Therefore, the vet opted for further surgery and adjustments to increase the stability in the knee.
I am pleased to report that following the second surgery, it was much more stable. We did more physio, and he has made a wonderful recovery. He is now out of his cage, free roaming the home and enjoying playing with his fellow furry housemates!
Well done mum and Fred! Fabulous team work! This mum worked really hard for her boy!
